How to buy a house with minimal noise?

I will be a first time buyer shortly, and I am doing my research now as to where I would like to live, and what type of place I would like to live in. My major concern is choosing somewhere with minimal noise problems. I live in a city (Bristol), and so if you have any tips that would be great.
